Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, multicultural island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, restaurants, events, finance, technology and logistics. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and cosmopolitan, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, parks and easy access to Southeast Asia. Housing can be expensive, especially near central districts, so newcomers often share apartments or live farther from Marina Bay. Foreign employees generally need a valid work pass arranged through an employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and the role. Short-term visitors cannot legally work. Applicants should verify pass requirements with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower and confirm whether the employer provides accommodation, meals, transport or relocation assistance. Singapore’s climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so suitable clothing and budgeting for air-conditioning are important.
