Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with opportunities in finance, technology, hospitality, tourism, retail, healthcare, logistics and professional services. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, efficient and generally respectful of rules, punctuality and personal responsibility. Public transport is excellent, although accommodation can be expensive, especially near the city centre. Popular neighbourhoods for newcomers include Tiong Bahru, Queenstown, Paya Lebar and the East Coast. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, and approval depends on salary, qualifications and prevailing government criteria. Candidates should confirm pass eligibility before relocating. Singapore offers excellent healthcare, safety and dining, but budgeting carefully for rent, deposits and daily expenses is essential.
