Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, events, finance, technology and international business. English is widely used, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and strongly influenced by Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western traditions. Public transport is efficient, healthcare is high quality and the city is generally very safe, although accommodation and daily expenses can be expensive. Popular areas include Marina Bay, Orchard, Sentosa and the East Coast, with excellent food, shopping and parks throughout the island. Foreign employees usually need employer-sponsored permission to work, commonly an Employment Pass for professional roles or an S Pass for eligible mid-skilled positions. Approval depends on salary, qualifications, experience and government criteria. New arrivals should arrange housing, health coverage, banking and tax registration, and confirm visa support and relocation benefits with the employer before accepting an offer.
