Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected city-state rather than a traditional island resort. It offers strong opportunities in technology, finance, hospitality, logistics, healthcare, engineering and regional business services. The culture is multicultural, professional and generally orderly, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Public transport is efficient, healthcare is high quality, and neighborhoods offer varied dining, shopping, parks and waterfront activities. Housing can be expensive, especially in central areas, so many newcomers compare city apartments with locations near MRT lines. Foreign professionals normally require an Employment Pass or, for eligible mid-skilled roles, an S Pass; the employer usually submits the application to Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. A valid work pass is needed before starting employment. New arrivals should budget for rent, utilities, transport, insurance and deposits, and check tax, pass and relocation requirements before accepting an offer.
