Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, supply chain, logistics, information technology, tourism, finance, healthcare and business services. Colombo is the main commercial centre and provides the widest range of professional roles, while industrial employment is also available around Katunayake, Biyagama, Koggala and other manufacturing zones. The country combines tropical beaches, mountain landscapes, historic cities and a relaxed social culture. Living costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although housing and international-school fees can be significant in Colombo. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages. Foreign employees normally need an employment visa or residence permission arranged with support from the sponsoring employer; a tourist or ETA visa does not permit work. Applicants should confirm current requirements with the Sri Lankan embassy or immigration authorities before relocating. Public transport is affordable, but traffic can be heavy.
