Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, international city with excellent opportunities in hospitality, tourism, finance, technology, retail and digital commerce. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions, Chinese festivals and food with strong global influences, while the working environment is generally fast-paced and professional. Lifestyle options range from busy urban districts and renowned dining to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Salaries can be attractive, although rent and daily expenses are high, especially on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon; public transport is efficient and widely used. Overseas hires generally need an employment visa sponsored by the employer, with approval based on qualifications, salary, business need and a confirmed offer. Applicants should prepare passports, qualifications, employment records and references. New arrivals should budget for housing deposits, health insurance and initial living costs.
