Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected city with excellent opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation and professional services. Major hotel employers are concentrated in Central, Admiralty, Tsim Sha Tsui, Causeway Bay, Kowloon and the airport area. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient public transport and a fast-paced working style. Lifestyle options range from dense urban neighborhoods and famous dining to hiking, beaches and outlying islands. Rents can be high, so candidates should compare housing allowances with commuting costs. Overseas professionals normally require an employment visa sponsored by the hiring company; applications generally need a confirmed job offer, suitable qualifications and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Dependants may usually apply for dependent visas. Before relocating, check current Immigration Department rules, healthcare arrangements, taxation, accommodation and school requirements if moving with family.
