Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a major international business and tourism centre with strong opportunities in hospitality, sales, finance, retail, technology and professional services. Although often described as an island destination, it includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, together with outlying islands. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, festivals, excellent dining and a fast-paced working style. Public transport is efficient, housing can be expensive, and lifestyles range from dense urban living to beaches, hiking trails and quieter island communities. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa arranged through an eligible sponsoring company; approval depends on qualifications, relevant experience, a confirmed job and market-based salary. Dependants may usually apply for accompanying visas. New arrivals should budget carefully for accommodation, deposits, insurance and daily transport, and check current immigration requirements before relocating.
