Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and shared services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island and resort locations provide a relaxed lifestyle, tropical scenery, beaches and outdoor activities, while major cities offer better transport, healthcare, schools and professional networks. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals and daily life. English is widely used in business, although learning basic Malay is helpful. Foreign employees normally require an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must support the application before work begins. A valid passport, authenticated qualifications and medical or immigration documents may be required. Relocation costs, accommodation, taxation and dependent permits should be confirmed with the employer. Malaysia is generally affordable compared with many international destinations, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular resort areas can be more expensive.
