In Malaysia, Shangri-La has established hotel operations in destinations such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kota Kinabalu. Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, education, technology and shared services. For resort-based work, islands and coastal destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah provide a relaxed lifestyle, beaches and strong tourism demand. Malaysian culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions; English is widely used in hospitality, although learning basic Malay is helpful. Living costs vary, with Kuala Lumpur generally more urban and expensive than smaller resort locations. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass sponsored by the employer, and should not begin work until approval is granted. Employers usually guide the application and may provide accommodation, flights, insurance or relocation assistance. Candidates should confirm salary, service charge, housing, contract length, medical benefits and visa responsibilities before accepting an offer. Public transport is good in cities, while island living may require scooters or taxis.
