Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, events, finance, technology, healthcare and logistics. Hotel and event professionals benefit from a busy corporate, meetings and exhibitions market, although competition for roles can be high. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally respectful, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Lifestyle highlights include excellent public transport, safe neighbourhoods, diverse food, shopping, parks and easy access to Southeast Asia. Living costs, especially rent, are high. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, and approval depends on salary, qualifications and government criteria. New arrivals should arrange suitable accommodation, health insurance and a local bank account. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
