Destination Guide

Penang Island is one of Malaysia’s best-known destinations for hospitality and tourism careers. Jobs are available in hotels, resorts, restaurants, event venues, retail, travel services and healthcare, with Batu Feringgi and George Town offering many opportunities. The island combines a relaxed coastal lifestyle with a lively heritage city, excellent street food and a diverse Malay, Chinese, Indian and international culture. Rent and daily expenses are generally more manageable than in Kuala Lumpur, although beach areas can be more expensive. English is widely used in hotels, while Malay is the national language. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, and approval must be obtained before beginning work; requirements vary by nationality and position. Relocating staff should arrange certified documents, medical checks, accommodation and transport in advance. Penang has an international airport, reliable healthcare and good connections to mainland Malaysia.
