Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied relocation options, from busy Kuala Lumpur and Penang to coastal Sabah, Sarawak, Langkawi, and the east-coast areas near Kuantan. Banking opportunities are strongest in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching, while Kuantan provides a quieter lifestyle and lower housing costs. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous traditions, with English widely used in business and Bahasa Malaysia important for daily life. Food, beaches, shopping, and outdoor activities are major lifestyle attractions. Public transport is strongest in major cities; a car is useful in Kuantan and island locations. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the employer handling applications and eligibility requirements. Dependants may require separate passes. New arrivals should budget for rental deposits, utilities, transport, healthcare, and insurance, and should confirm tax, work-permit, and relocation details with UOB before moving.
