Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, education, healthcare, and construction. Popular destinations include Kuala Lumpur and Selangor on the peninsula, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indigenous, and international influences; respect for religion, modest dress, and courteous communication are important. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living to relaxed island communities, with generally affordable food and public transport, although central-city rents can be higher. Foreign nationals normally need an employment pass or other work authorization arranged by an approved employer before starting work. Hospitality employers may sponsor eligible candidates, but requirements depend on nationality, salary, qualifications, and the position. Bring certified documents, check contract details carefully, and budget for deposits, transport, healthcare, and accommodation during relocation.
