Company Info

Rakuten is one of Japan's largest internet services and technology companies, founded in 1997 and headquartered in Tokyo. Its businesses span e-commerce, fintech, mobile communications, digital content, travel, online advertising, and professional sports. Rakuten operates an integrated membership and loyalty ecosystem that connects services through Rakuten Points, giving customers and merchants access to a broad digital platform. LINKSHARE JAPAN K.K. is part of this ecosystem and provides affiliate marketing, performance advertising, and partnership solutions for advertisers and publishers. The company works with brands, agencies, content creators, and media owners to generate measurable online sales and customer acquisition. Rakuten has a highly international workforce, although Japanese language ability and familiarity with the domestic market are often important for Japan-based positions.

Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in technology, digital marketing, finance, engineering, hospitality, education, and manufacturing, with the strongest concentration in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Japanese workplace culture generally values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, respect for hierarchy, and careful communication. Major cities provide excellent public transport, healthcare, restaurants, and entertainment, while living costs and commuting can be high, particularly in Tokyo. Japan's main islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku, with Okinawa and many smaller islands offering warmer climates and a slower pace. Foreign employees typically need an appropriate work visa, sponsored by an employer, and should arrange a residence card, address registration, health insurance, pension, and a bank account after arrival. Learning Japanese makes daily life and career progression easier. Relocation packages vary, so candidates should confirm visa sponsorship, housing support, benefits, and working arrangements before accepting an offer.
