Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities for software engineers, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and regional technology hubs. Demand remains high for frontend, cloud, data, cybersecurity, and mobile specialists, with international companies often hiring English-speaking professionals. Japanese workplaces value punctuality, teamwork, respect, and attention to detail, although global technology firms may have more flexible cultures. Lifestyle choices range from energetic city living to quieter coastal or rural communities. Public transportation is excellent, healthcare is reliable, and daily life is generally safe, though housing and commuting in Tokyo can be expensive. Foreign professionals commonly use an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services work visa, usually supported by the employer; highly skilled professionals may qualify for preferential treatment. Relocating requires arranging housing, residence registration, insurance, banking, and possibly school or family support. Learning basic Japanese is highly recommended for administration and everyday communication.
