Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers career opportunities in apparel manufacturing, finance shared services, information technology, tourism, logistics, engineering, and international business. Colombo is the main commercial centre and provides the broadest range of professional roles, while regional cities offer lower living costs and access to manufacturing and tourism jobs. The culture combines South Asian, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, and Christian traditions, with strong family ties, welcoming communities, and varied festivals. Lifestyle options range from busy urban living to beaches, tea-country towns, and wildlife areas. English is widely used in business, alongside Sinhala and Tamil. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa or residence approval arranged with employer sponsorship before working. Relocating workers should confirm contract terms, medical insurance, tax treatment, housing, and dependent permissions. Public transport is affordable, while private transport may be more convenient outside Colombo.
