Destination Guide

Singapore offers strong opportunities in technology, engineering, aerospace, defence, logistics, finance, healthcare and advanced manufacturing. English is widely used at work, and the culture is multicultural, efficient and generally respectful, with emphasis on punctuality and performance. Life is convenient, safe and well connected by MRT and buses, although accommodation and dining in central areas can be expensive. Popular neighbourhoods include the city centre, East Coast, Queenstown and the northern suburbs. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, experience and government assessment. Employers normally handle the application process. New arrivals should arrange housing, health insurance, banking and tax registration, and budget for rental deposits. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. The island is compact, while nearby Malaysia and Southeast Asian destinations are easily reached for travel.
