Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, retail, tourism, technology, finance and shared-service centres. Kuala Lumpur is the main urban employment hub, while Langkawi, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak provide strong tourism and resort careers. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; politeness, modest presentation and respect for religious practices are important. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, with Kuala Lumpur offering convenient public transport, shopping and international dining, while island destinations provide beaches and a slower pace. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or another approved work permit before starting employment; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm sponsorship, salary, accommodation, insurance and relocation support with the employer. New arrivals should budget for deposits, transport, documentation and initial living expenses.
