Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, finance, technology and international business. The culture is multicultural, with Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, and English is widely used at work. Lifestyle is convenient and safe, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare, shopping, parks and diverse food choices. Accommodation can be expensive, especially near central areas, so many workers choose shared apartments or housing farther from the hotel. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation; the employer normally manages the application. Before relocating, candidates should confirm pass eligibility, salary, accommodation, medical coverage and any service-charge arrangements. Singapore’s hot, humid climate and fast-paced work culture also require practical preparation.
