Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai offering particularly strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, construction, aviation, and facilities management. The culture is modern and international while remaining rooted in Islamic traditions; modest dress, respectful behaviour, and sensitivity during Ramadan are important. Dubai has excellent public transport, beaches, shopping, entertainment, and a busy year-round lifestyle, although summers are extremely hot. Most overseas employees need an employer-sponsored work and residence visa. The employer normally arranges entry permission, medical testing, Emirates ID processing, and residency formalities. Confirm the written contract, salary, accommodation, transport, working hours, insurance, probation period, and end-of-service benefits before relocating. Living costs can be high, especially for private housing, so employer-provided accommodation is valuable. Bring attested qualifications where required and budget for initial expenses until the first salary arrives.
