Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, resorts, tourism, and food service, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Okinawa, Hokkaido, and major resort areas. The culture values punctuality, respect, cleanliness, teamwork, and careful service. Life in Tokyo is convenient and energetic, with excellent public transport, but housing and commuting can be expensive. Smaller cities and resort regions may offer a quieter lifestyle and lower costs. Foreign culinary workers generally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate status of residence; options can include the Skilled Labor status for experienced foreign-cuisine chefs or the Specified Skilled Worker route for eligible food-service positions. Requirements vary by nationality, experience, examinations, and job duties. Applicants should confirm visa eligibility with the Japanese embassy and employer before relocating. Japanese language ability is highly useful for daily life and workplace communication.
