Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities for chefs, cooks and hospitality professionals, particularly in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, regional resorts and remote communities. The culture is generally informal, multicultural and work-focused, with emphasis on workplace safety, fairness and work-life balance. Melbourne provides excellent food, arts and sporting experiences, but accommodation and transport costs can be high. Major cities have reliable public transport, while regional areas may require a car. Common visa pathways include the Working Holiday Maker visa for eligible young travellers, employer-sponsored visas, and skilled migration options; applicants should check current requirements with the Australian Department of Home Affairs. Secure a written contract, confirm pay rates under the relevant award, arrange tax and banking details, and budget for accommodation, healthcare and travel. Australia is large, so climate and lifestyle vary considerably between states and territories.
