Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago, and Jakarta is located on Java, the country’s most developed and densely populated island. Hospitality, engineering, tourism, technology, finance, and service-sector opportunities are concentrated in Jakarta, Bali, Batam, and other major destinations. Jakarta offers international restaurants, shopping malls, cultural attractions, and extensive professional networks, but traffic, humidity, and air pollution can be challenging. Indonesian culture places importance on hospitality, respect, community, and religious diversity; learning basic Bahasa Indonesia is highly useful. Employees commonly live in apartments or residential areas near business districts, with costs varying considerably by location. Foreign workers normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit, and an appropriate limited-stay visa or KITAS before beginning employment. Employers often guide the application process, but requirements can change, so candidates should confirm current rules with Marriott and Indonesian immigration authorities. Bali and other islands provide a more relaxed lifestyle, while Jakarta offers broader career opportunities.
