Destination Guide

Penang, an island and mainland state in northern Malaysia, offers job opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, healthcare, manufacturing, technology, education, and services. George Town is known for UNESCO-listed heritage buildings, vibrant street art, hawker food, temples, mosques, and a multicultural population shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian, and international influences. Lifestyle is generally relaxed, affordable, and convenient, with beaches, hiking, shopping, cafés, and reliable transport links. English is widely used in tourism and business, while Malay is the national language. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Malaysian work pass, such as an Employment Pass, and must meet immigration and qualification requirements before starting work. Relocating usually involves arranging accommodation, medical checks, banking, transport, and health insurance. Costs are moderate, though central George Town and coastal areas can be more expensive.
