Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, events, tourism, technology, finance and education. Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya provide the widest range of professional roles, while Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak offer strong tourism and resort employment. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business, while Bahasa Malaysia is the national language. Lifestyle costs are moderate compared with many international cities, although central Kuala Lumpur and island resorts can be more expensive. Malaysia has beaches, rainforests, historic towns and excellent food, with a warm tropical climate year-round. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must meet immigration requirements before work begins. Candidates should confirm salary, accommodation, insurance, relocation support and permit arrangements in writing. Petaling Jaya is urban and convenient, but traffic can be heavy, so housing near the workplace is helpful.
