Destination Guide

Fiji offers employment opportunities in resorts, hotels, restaurants, construction, trades, tourism, marine activities, healthcare, education and business services. Nadi, Denarau, Suva and the Coral Coast are the main employment centres, while smaller islands provide more resort-based work. Fijian culture is welcoming and community focused, with strong traditions of family, village life, music, dance and shared meals. Life is generally relaxed, although resort work can involve long hours, weekends and seasonal peaks. Housing and transport should be discussed with the employer because costs can be higher in resort areas. Foreign nationals normally need an approved work permit before starting employment; the employer usually supports the application, and requirements can include a contract, qualifications, health checks and police clearance. Relocating staff should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and local transport in advance. Fiji’s beaches, reefs, hiking, markets and outdoor lifestyle are major attractions.
