Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance and technology. Hospitality work is concentrated around Marina Bay, Orchard Road, Sentosa and the airport, with English widely used in the workplace. The culture is multicultural, orderly and fast-paced, blending Chinese, Malay, Indian and Western influences. Public transport is efficient, while housing, dining and daily expenses can be high; shared accommodation is common for entry-level workers. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation. Employers normally handle the application. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, a local bank account and transport access, and confirm whether service charge, meals, uniform and other benefits are included in the offer.
