Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago, and this position is based in Surabaya on Java, the country's most developed and populous island. Java offers strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, trade, technology, manufacturing and corporate sales, especially in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung and Bali. Surabaya has a warm tropical climate, good shopping and dining, a busy commercial environment and generally lower living costs than Jakarta or Bali. Indonesian culture values courtesy, community, modesty and respectful workplace relationships; English is useful in international hotels, while Indonesian is essential for daily life. Housing, transport and healthcare are widely available, although traffic can be heavy. Foreign hires normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit and a limited-stay visa or KITAS; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules, benefits, accommodation and relocation support directly with Marriott before accepting an offer.
