Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the largest number of hospitality, tourism, retail, aviation, finance, and technology jobs. The country is multicultural, modern, and generally safe, with English widely used in workplaces. Life includes excellent restaurants, shopping, beaches, desert activities, and extensive international travel links, although rent and schooling can be expensive. Islamic customs should be respected, particularly regarding dress, public behaviour, and Ramadan practices. Most expatriates require employer-sponsored residence and work visas; the employer usually arranges entry approval, medical testing, Emirates ID, and labour documentation. A passport normally needs sufficient validity, and qualifications may require attestation for some roles. New arrivals should budget for deposits, transport, health insurance, and initial accommodation. Dubai’s metro and taxis are convenient, while driving is useful outside central areas.
