Destination Guide

Maldives offers opportunities in resorts, hotels, restaurants, marine activities, engineering, housekeeping, food and beverage, finance and guest services. Resort employment is international and commonly includes accommodation, meals, transport and service charge, although benefits vary by contract. Life on a resort island is peaceful and scenic, with beaches, diving, fishing and water sports, but it can also feel remote, with limited shopping and entertainment. Maldivian culture is influenced by Islam, so modest clothing and respectful behavior are important, especially when visiting local islands. Vagaru, home to JW Marriott Maldives, is in the northern Shaviyani Atoll and is reached by domestic flight and speedboat or seaplane connections. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit and a valid employment visa; the employer usually manages the application and medical requirements. Candidates should confirm salary, service charge, flights, insurance, leave and visa arrangements before accepting an offer.
