Destination Guide

Qatar is a compact Gulf country rather than an island, with Doha serving as the main center for hospitality, business and entertainment. Job opportunities are strong in luxury hotels, restaurants, resorts, aviation, events, retail and tourism, although competition can be high. The culture combines Islamic traditions with a diverse expatriate population; modest clothing, respectful behavior and awareness of local customs are important. Life is modern and convenient, with excellent malls, beaches, museums and restaurants, but summers are extremely hot and outdoor work can be demanding. Employers commonly sponsor work visas, arrange medical checks and provide residency permits after hiring. Many hospitality packages include shared accommodation, meals and transport. Before relocating, confirm salary, service charge, housing, flights, leave, medical insurance and working hours in writing. Doha has a relatively high cost of living, especially for private accommodation.
