Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hospitality, tourism, events, retail, technology and shared services. Kuala Lumpur is the main business hub, while Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak provide strong tourism and resort employment. The country’s culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, reflected in its food, festivals, languages and customs. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Malaysia’s islands are popular for beaches, diving and weekend travel, but this role is based on the mainland in Kuala Lumpur. Foreign employees normally require an employment pass sponsored by the hiring company; approval depends on salary, qualifications and immigration rules. Candidates should confirm visa arrangements before accepting an offer. Relocation planning should include accommodation, healthcare, transport, banking, tax registration and suitable work attire for a warm, humid climate.
