Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in software engineering, AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, fintech, robotics, and international business, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Workplace culture often values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, respect, and careful communication; larger global companies may provide more flexible, English-friendly environments. Lifestyle combines excellent public transport, safe cities, efficient services, rich food culture, and access to mountains, beaches, and historic areas. Housing and commuting costs are highest in central Tokyo, while regional cities can be more affordable. Most foreign professionals need an employer-sponsored work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services status; qualifications and a qualifying job offer are normally required. Employers usually assist with sponsorship, documentation, and relocation guidance. New arrivals should arrange housing, residence registration, health insurance, banking, and tax procedures. Learning practical Japanese is highly valuable, particularly in regulated industries and daily life.
