Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in software engineering, cloud computing, cybersecurity, data, finance technology, manufacturing, healthcare, and infrastructure operations. Tokyo has the broadest international job market, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo also provide growing technology opportunities. Japanese workplaces value punctuality, preparation, teamwork, and respect for hierarchy, although multinational technology teams may use English. Life is generally safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable services, and varied housing costs; Tokyo is expensive, especially near central business districts. A valid work status is required, commonly an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa, and the employer usually sponsors the application. Highly skilled professionals may qualify for a points-based visa. New arrivals should arrange housing, residence registration, health insurance, a bank account, and tax procedures. Learning practical Japanese significantly improves daily life and career integration.
