Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in software engineering, cybersecurity, fintech, cloud services, manufacturing, and multilingual business roles, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. The country combines efficient public transport, excellent healthcare, distinctive regional food, and a generally safe, orderly lifestyle. Japanese workplace culture values reliability, preparation, teamwork, and respect for hierarchy, although international technology companies are often more flexible. Living costs are highest in Tokyo; regional cities can provide more space and a slower pace. Knowledge of Japanese is helpful for daily life and career growth, even when English is used at work. Foreign professionals generally need an appropriate work visa, commonly an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa, sponsored by an employer. Applicants should prepare educational and employment documents, secure housing, register their address, obtain health insurance, and arrange a residence card after arrival. Japan’s main islands offer varied experiences, from urban convenience to beaches, mountains, and traditional communities.
