Destination Guide

The Philippines offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events, business services and technology, particularly in Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan and Davao. Filipino culture is warm, family-oriented and community-minded, with English widely used in workplaces. Lifestyle varies from busy metropolitan living to relaxed coastal communities; expect tropical weather, affordable local food and generally lower living costs than many Western countries, although central Manila and resort areas can be expensive. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored Alien Employment Permit and an appropriate work visa, commonly a 9(g) pre-arranged employee visa. Employers normally assist with applications, but requirements should be confirmed with Philippine immigration authorities. Relocating staff should arrange housing, health insurance, tax registration and document authentication before arrival. Transport, internet and healthcare are strongest in major cities, while island locations may have fewer services and seasonal travel challenges.
