Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, tourism, retail, technology, finance and shared services. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman and parts of Sabah provide resort and hospitality work, while Kuala Lumpur and Johor offer broader corporate opportunities. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals, language and daily life. Lifestyle costs are moderate, although resort islands can be more expensive and seasonal. Foreign employees normally require an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling the application and relevant approvals; working before approval is not permitted. Relocation costs, accommodation, transport and healthcare should be checked carefully, particularly for island postings. English is widely used in hotels, while Malay is the national language.
