Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied career opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, tourism, retail, logistics, technology and shared services. Popular locations include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and the islands of Sabah and Sarawak. Local culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in food, festivals, languages and religious traditions. Lifestyle costs vary: Kuala Lumpur is busiest and more urban, while island destinations offer a slower pace, beaches and outdoor activities but fewer professional services. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the company handling approval and immigration procedures; requirements depend on salary, qualifications and the role. New arrivals should budget for housing deposits, transport, insurance and initial living expenses. English is widely used in hospitality, although learning basic Malay helps with daily life and workplace relationships.
