Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare and retail. The culture is multicultural, with Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences; English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. Life is safe, efficient and convenient, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare and abundant food options. Housing can be expensive, especially near central districts, so many employees share accommodation or live farther from the city centre. Foreign workers generally need an approved work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, sponsored or supported by an employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and current government rules. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, deposits and insurance, and confirm that the employer provides valid relocation and visa assistance before accepting an offer.
