Job Description

The Events Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering conferences, weddings, meetings and other functions at Shangri-La. Requirements typically include a degree or diploma in hospitality, events, tourism or a related field, along with several years of hotel or event-management experience. The candidate should have strong organisational, communication and negotiation skills, commercial awareness, attention to detail and the ability to manage budgets, suppliers, clients and operational teams. Experience with luxury hotels, event sales systems and banquet operations is advantageous.

Company Info

Shangri-La is a global luxury hospitality group founded in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other destinations. The group is known for personalised service, elegant facilities and its “Shangri-La” approach to warm Asian hospitality. Its properties commonly include accommodation, restaurants, meeting and event venues, wellness facilities and recreational services. In the Philippines, Shangri-La has established properties in major business and leisure destinations, including Metro Manila and Boracay. Employees work in a guest-centred environment where service standards, teamwork, cultural awareness and professional presentation are highly valued. Career opportunities are available across hotel operations, food and beverage, events, sales, finance, engineering and corporate support functions.

Destination Guide

The Philippines offers hospitality and events opportunities in Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Clark and other resort destinations. Employers include international hotel groups, beach resorts, restaurants, convention venues and destination-management companies. Filipino culture is warm, family-oriented and English is widely used in workplaces, making the country accessible for international hospitality professionals. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living in Manila to a slower, outdoor-focused pace on the islands, with generally affordable food, transport and accommodation compared with many major cities. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate visa, commonly involving an Alien Employment Permit and a 9(g) employment visa; requirements can change, so confirmation with the employer and Philippine authorities is important. Relocation planning should cover housing, health insurance, tax registration, local banking, tropical weather and commuting. Resort locations may offer staff accommodation or transport, but this should be confirmed before accepting an offer.
