Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city and territory centred on Hong Kong Island, with Kowloon and the New Territories connected by efficient rail, roads and ferries. Hospitality, finance, retail, aviation, technology, healthcare and education provide varied employment opportunities. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; festivals, temples, markets and excellent dining sit alongside a fast-paced business environment. Lifestyle options range from dense urban neighbourhoods and nightlife to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Employers generally sponsor work visas for qualified overseas professionals, but candidates must secure an offer before applying, and approval depends on qualifications, experience and salary. Relocation costs and rents can be high, especially near central districts, while public transport is reliable. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, health coverage, banking and a Hong Kong identity document after approval. Cantonese is valuable for local roles, while English is widely used in international hotels.
