Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a highly connected coastal city and territory rather than a single island, although Hong Kong Island is one of its best-known areas. Job opportunities are strong in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation, logistics and professional services. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, international influences, efficient public transport and a fast-paced working environment. Lifestyle options range from dense urban neighbourhoods and excellent dining to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Eligible overseas professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer, with applications assessed on qualifications, experience and whether the role is difficult to fill locally. Employers commonly assist with documentation, but candidates should confirm visa, tax, insurance and housing arrangements before relocating. Rents can be high, especially on Hong Kong Island and in central districts.
