Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, finance and education. Major employment centres include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and Kota Kinabalu, while Langkawi and other coastal destinations provide seasonal and resort-based hospitality work. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, and English is widely used in business and tourism. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed beach and island communities, with generally affordable food and transport compared with many international destinations. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass or other approved work authorisation arranged by the employer before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Relocating usually involves securing a contract, employer sponsorship, accommodation and health insurance. Malaysia's tropical climate, diverse cuisine and welcoming communities make it attractive, although traffic, humidity and monsoon weather should be considered.
