Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a highly connected international city and a strong location for careers in hospitality, security, finance, retail, technology, aviation and tourism. Hotel employees can find opportunities in luxury properties, restaurants, events and serviced residences, although competition is high and Cantonese is often valuable alongside English. The culture combines Chinese traditions with global influences, offering excellent food, public transport, festivals, hiking and a vibrant urban lifestyle. Housing is expensive, particularly near central districts, so many workers choose areas with convenient MTR access and compare employer accommodation or allowances carefully. Foreign nationals generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer, with approval based on qualifications, a confirmed job and market-appropriate salary. Security positions may also require local licensing and background checks. New arrivals should arrange housing, banking, medical insurance and tax registration, and confirm visa, work-permit and relocation details with Shangri-La before travelling.
