Job Description

The Commis II/III – Pastry supports the pastry kitchen in preparing breads, cakes, desserts and other baked items according to Shangri-La standards. Candidates should have culinary or pastry training, relevant hotel or bakery experience, basic knowledge of pastry techniques and a willingness to learn. Cantonese, English or both may be useful in the Hong Kong workplace.

Company Info

Shangri-La Group is a Hong Kong-based international hospitality company operating luxury hotels, resorts and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America and other destinations. Its hotels are known for attentive service, refined dining, wellness facilities and strong guest-experience standards. The group operates several properties in Hong Kong and offers career opportunities across culinary operations, restaurants, housekeeping, front office and corporate functions. Shangri-La generally places emphasis on service excellence, professional presentation, teamwork and structured learning. A pastry commis joining the company would work within a professional hotel kitchen, supporting the pastry chef and broader culinary brigade while gaining experience in large-scale production, high-end presentation and international hospitality procedures.

Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, bakeries, catering companies and international food businesses, making it a useful destination for developing a pastry career. The culture combines Cantonese traditions, international influences and a fast-paced professional environment. Life is convenient, with excellent public transport, extensive shopping and dining, and easy access to hiking trails, beaches and outlying islands. Accommodation can be expensive, especially in central districts, so many workers live in areas such as Kowloon or the New Territories and commute. Foreign employees generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer before starting work; approval normally depends on a confirmed offer, suitable qualifications or experience and proof that the role is genuine. Applicants should confirm visa, housing, medical and benefit details directly with Shangri-La before relocating.
