Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a major international business and tourism hub with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics and professional services. Although often called an island destination, Hong Kong includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, plus many outlying islands. Its culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences, and Cantonese, English and Mandarin are widely used. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking and beaches, but housing can be expensive and space is limited. Overseas hires generally need an employment visa sponsored by an eligible employer before starting work; employers normally provide supporting documentation. Applicants should confirm salary, accommodation, medical coverage and visa support directly with Shangri-La. New arrivals should budget carefully, arrange temporary housing and obtain a Hong Kong Identity Card after arrival.
