Destination Guide

Australia is an island continent with job opportunities in retail, hospitality, healthcare, construction, technology, logistics, agriculture and education. Major employment centres include Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and regional towns, although living costs and job availability differ considerably. Australian culture is generally informal, multicultural and focused on work-life balance, outdoor activities and community life. The lifestyle offers beaches, national parks, sport and diverse food, but housing can be expensive in major cities and distances are large. Visitors and migrants need the correct visa: options may include Working Holiday, employer-sponsored, skilled, student or permanent migration visas, depending on eligibility. Check official Department of Home Affairs requirements before travelling. Relocating usually requires budgeting for accommodation, transport, healthcare, tax registration and initial living costs. Public transport is strongest in major cities, while regional areas may require a car.
