Destination Guide

Australia offers trade opportunities in construction, roofing, manufacturing, maintenance, mining, infrastructure and utilities, with demand varying by state and project activity. Workplaces are generally multicultural, practical and safety-focused, and employers expect punctuality, clear communication and respect for regulations. Lifestyle differs considerably: Sydney and Melbourne provide large job markets and diverse communities, while regional areas may offer lower living costs and stronger demand for skilled trades. Housing can be expensive in major cities, so checking accommodation before relocating is important. Skilled workers may need a temporary or permanent visa, and eligibility commonly depends on occupation lists, qualifications, English ability, age and work experience. Employer-sponsored, skilled independent and state-nominated pathways may be available; requirements change, so consult the Australian Department of Home Affairs. A trade assessment, local licence or working-at-heights certification may also be required before starting roofing work.
