Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, cybersecurity, compliance, engineering, tourism and digital commerce, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. Its island destinations, including Langkawi, Penang, Redang and Tioman, provide beaches, diving, food and a relaxed lifestyle, while Kuala Lumpur offers stronger career access, international schools, healthcare and public transport. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in festivals, languages and cuisine. Expatriates generally need an employment pass sponsored by their employer; senior professionals may qualify for longer-term residence options, subject to current rules. Relocation costs are moderate compared with Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur housing and international schooling can be expensive. New arrivals should arrange suitable medical insurance, verify visa conditions, and consider commuting distance, climate, local banking and family requirements before moving.
